Convex mirror is also called diverging mirror as it diverges the beam of light falling on it. It ia for this purpose that it is used in street lamps

because concave mirrors are used as converging mirrors for a parallel beam of light and convex mirrors are divergent mirrors.. in which the light can spread across the area.. hence they are used in street lamps
