why is decomposition of matter important

decomposition of organic matter I.e - animals , plants etc remains in soils , it is an important process in any ecosystem . decomposers microorganisms feed on the organic matter and break it down into simpler components. as organic matter is decomposed , water , carbon dioxide , nutrients are released .
