A reaction in which a single reactant breaks down to form two or more products, is known as decomposition reaction.
This reaction is opposite to combination reaction as, in a combination reaction two or more reactants react with each other to produced one product.
Examples of decomposition reaction :
CaCO3 (s) -------- CaO (s) + CO2 (g)
Example of combination reaction :
CaO (s) + H2O (l) ----------- Ca(OH)2 (aq) + Heat
