Tiger is one of the big cat . Even the largest cat in the world is tiger , i. e. Siberian tiger . The small number of living tiger is a cause of concern because tiger is a rare animal. It is a successful species . It is the animal that maintain a balance in the population of herbivorous animals. The small number of tigers will lead to its extinction and ecological imbalance.

Thus , tigers need a protection plan

Why is decrease in the number of surviving tigers a cause?

Small populations are at risk of extinction because:

  1. Lesser opportunity of finding the mate.
  2. Interbreeding that leads to interbreeding depression & degeneration.
  3. Increased threat to Survival because of habitat destruction & environmental changes.
  4. Fewer recombinations & less variability & hence lesser adaptability to changing environment
