In a democratic government it is the representatives of people who govern for the welfare of people. An  essential feature of democratic government is free and fair elections. If representatives are not governing as per the expectations of people the latter have the power to remove their representatives from the seat of authority and elect the new ones. In this way democratic government is more accountable form of government.
