Evolution is not unidirectional.
A particular species can evolve into 2 or more than 2 species .
In case of bottle neck effect and fouders effect .
EXAMPLE :-
the Finches of Galapagos island evolved into seed eating , fruit eating , worm eating etc . this shows that evolution is not unidirectional . it shows BRANCHING DESCENT.

Answer:
Evolution does not progress in a single direction. It has no predetermined path or end goals. If less complexity provides a survival advantage, those creatures will fill a population while their more complex brethren may go extinct.
