Why is fecl3 used as a catalyst in the chlorination of benzene?

The normal conditions will not allow the electrophilic substitution of benzene due to its resonance, so to create this reaction, a catalyst is used in the form of FeCl3 for chlorination and FeBr3 for bromination of benzene.... hope it helps you....
