Explanation:

Fireflies produce light by some chemical reactions occurring inside their body. This type of reaction in which light is produced is known as bioluminescence. A protein called luciferin is produced inside the gut of the insect. The enzyme luciferase reacts with this protein in presence of oxygen. As a result heat and light are emitted by the insect which glows in darkness.
