zns doesn't show floreccense in pure form inorder to do so it has to be mixed with impurities like ag

the reason behind this is that when the cathode rays hit the film coated with zns it causes the electrons to excite to energy levels of the atom( impurities) and when that excited electron comes back into its ground state it causes floreccense on the screen
