Graphite has a huge number of electron delocalization within the carbon layers. This phenomenon is called aromaticity.

Due to the presence of valence electrons that are free to move around, they allow electricity to pass.

As graphite is a good conductor of electricity and is a cheap option available, it is used widely in many applications including arc lamp electrodes.
