why is hydrogen kept along with metal although it is non metal?

Answer:

Hydrogen even though a non-metal is kept along with the metals as an reference as to the metals above hydrogen can displace hydrogen from a compound whereas the metals below hydrogen cannot displace hydrogen from its compound(Ex for hydrogen compounds - H2SO4 , HCl)
