Storage of hydrogen peroxide in a colored bottle

  • Hydrogen peroxide is a highly reactive chemical compound.
  • To make it retain its chemical properties, this compound is always stored in the brown-colored bottle.
  • Normal glass containers have traces of alkali metal ions present in them. When this comes in contact with hydrogen peroxide, the chemical may convert into water or may get evaporated as oxygen gas.
  • To prevent the exposure of chemicals to heat, air, and alkali metal ions it is kept in colored (brown) bottles.
