Why is ice at 273K more effective in cooling than water at the same temperature ?

It is so because....------>

Each kilogram of ice on melting into water absorbs 336000 joules of energy as compared to water at 0 degrees.

Ice has the highest latent heat of fusion...

thus water would not further melt hence it doesn't draw any heat and does not cause cooling effect unlike ice....as explained above.

Ice melts at 273 K and there occurs a change of state from solid to liquid. Ice absorbs heat energy equal to the latent heat of fusion (3.35 × 10^5 J kg^-1). Since, this heat energy is absorbed by ice from water and surroundings without showing any rise of temperature, ice at 273 K is more effective in cooling than the same mass of water at the same temperature. The heat energy is used up in changing the state from solid to liquid by overcoming the forces of attraction between the water molecules in ice. In water, at 273 K, no such absorption of heat energy occurs. The particles of ice at 273 K have less energy as compared to the particles of water at 273 K. Hence, ice takes more heat energy from the surroundings and thus cause more cooling than water at the same temperature.
