India is a secular state as it ensures that people have the
freedom to change their religion whenever they want to. It
ensures that all the people have the freedom to live by
their religious beliefs and practices. No religious
community can gain power over the other religious
communities. No one can discriminate someone because they
belong to some other religion. There can be no
discrimination on grounds of caste, religion, color, creed
and sex. The State can not promote one religion as the State
religion. We have the right to freedom to religion.

this is because of the prominent leaders of congress, each of them expressed different views on it. when India became free in 1947 ,it found itself engulfed in a wave of religious frenzy of worst ammunal violence.

India is a birthplace of many religions which does not discriminate against the followers of a particular religion nor does it interferes in the religious matters of a particular religion. Article 25-28 mentions 'the right to freedom of religion' which are as follows--
1.Article 25- it guarantees the right to profess, propagate and practice any religion.
2.Article 26-  it guarantees the right to established any institution for religious or charitable purposes.
3.Article 27-  it states that no taxes shall be levied on a particular religion.
4.Article 28- it states that no religious instructions shall be propagated in any educational institutional run wholly by government funds..........
