India is known as a Peninsula because it is covered by water on three sides that is Arabian sea in West , Bay of Bengal in East and Indian ocean in South.

because of Peninsular denotes or relates to an area of land almost surrounded by water or projecting out into a body of water. India being the country of rivers which are lifeline of our country that's why Peninsular India term is surfaced.
