India is called a secular state because it does not partially separate different religion and state. It has no official religion. It gives equal importance to all the religion.

Question :
Why is india called a secular state ?
Answer :
Every country has it's own culture. America has American culture and Britain has British culture. America may be a secular country which means Govt will be neutral in matters of religion but we cannot say that secularism is the culture of America. It may be a small part of American culture. For example, Anerica has Christian culture, Muslim culture, national culture etc. Together, we call it the American culture.
Similarly, India may be a secular country but its culture is Indian culture which in Hindi is called Hindu culture. Since India has Hindu culture, it is a Hindu country or land of Hindus. That's why it is called Hindustan. Hindu culture is different from Islamic or Christian culture which are divisive. Hindu culture is an inclusive culture which sees unity in diversity whereas Islamic and Christian culture only sees diversity and no unity in diversity. That's why they say that thrir religion is the only way to God. As India has many languages, many religions, many sects, many cultures, only an inclusive culture like Hinduism can unite India. Islamic culture and Christian culture can only divide India. So, India will always be a Hindu country. Secularism is only its state policy towards religions which means equality towards all religions. Secularism is neutral towards religions but Hinduism includes religions and spiritually. Therefore Hinduism is the true identity of India and not seculsrism. Secularism is a western concept applicable to Western and Islsmic countries. Hinduism includes secularism andcis more than secularism. It is the spirit of India.
