India is a socialist country by principles - but it is a feudalistic country by practice . The rich, powerful and popular people rule this nation, not the common man. Common man is just a vote bank deposit, nothing more. All rules which are applied to a normal citizen are not applied on the powerful, popular and the rich. We thrive in cast and religion politics and we can see this in each election. Your child is asked for cast (OC/BC/OBC) etc, why? Why do you think they want the sub-classifications of the people - we can understand Male / Female (that’s the creation and needs to be identified), Hindi/Muslim/Christian - may be needed for giving leave on their festivals (other wise serves no purpose), but why the hell they want casts and sub casts - etc. So that you can get quota in school seats, college seats, employment, also cast indicates how strongly numbered your sect is. So, as I see this socialist drama is just to keep some one happy and some others suppressed. Nothing more.

The word socialist was added to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution by the 42nd amendment act of 1976, during the Emergency. It implies social and economic equality. Social equality in this context means the absence of discrimination on the grounds only of caste, colour, creed, gender, religion, or language.
