The Indian government has a federal structure. It is a union of several States. Legislative, administrative and executive powers are shared, as per what is laid out by the Indian Constitution, between Centre and States, with the major powers and decision-making apparatus at the Centre.

India combines the features of Federal government and that of Unitary government. In Federations, the States have the right to come out of the Union.
