Endocytosis generally occurs in animalcells and very rarely in plant cells as the cell membrane in plant cell is surrounded by a rigid cell wall. Cell wall causes hindrance in the invagination of plasma membrane which forms the transport vesicles for the transfer of substances in the cytoplasm of the cell.

Endocytosis generally occurs in animal cells and very rarely in plant cells as the cell membrane in plant cell is surrounded by a rigid cell wall. Endocytosis is a process in which cells absorb molecules by of engulfing them from external medium. Cells use this mechanism, when the molecules are larger and polar hence, cannot pass through hydrophobic cell membrane. The process shows engulfment of small food particles by forming an invagination around it then forming a small vesicle. This vesicle is then taken inside the cell and then vesicle is broken down to release the food particle. This phenomenon is observed in animal cells only as plasma membrane of animal cells is in direct contact external medium. The plant cells are covered with cell wall from outside. Due to this, plasma membrane of plant cells is not directly in contact with external medium. Cell wall of plant cell is very rigid, tough and thick to perform endocytosis.

I hope this helps!!
