The opposition offered to current within the cell is called the internal resistance of the cell.It is made up of resistances of plates, the active material and electrolyte.
The internal resistance of cell is very small(0.01Ohms) in order to
1.  Reduce the internal drop and
2. To take large amount of current from the secondary cell .
