Mg atom means It has 1 electron in its valence shell. So it can be removed easily
but considering Mg ^2 ion it already lost 2 electrons.
The force of attraction is more in this case.So it is difficult.

Because of the ionization energy of mg 2positive ion it is very difficult to remove electron.
Hope it helps you.
