why is it difficult to remove an electron from magnesium Ion compared to neutral magnesium atom?

Mg atom means It has 1 electron in its valence shell. So it can be removed easily
but considering Mg ^2 ion it already lost 2 electrons.
The force of attraction is more in this case.So it is difficult.

Because of the ionization energy of mg 2positive ion it is very difficult to remove electron.
