Why is it easier for a person to push the bucket that is empty rather than the one that is filled with sand?

This is because, in comparison to the empty bucket the filled bucket has a much lesser tendency to change its state of motion. Accordingly,we say that the filled bucket has more inertia than the empty bucket. Clearly, heavier or more massive objects offer larger inertia. Quantitatively, the inertia of an object is measured by its mass. We may thus relate inertia and mass as follows:
