Buoyancy is the principle behind lifting of stone under water is easier than in air

Explanation:

Any object when dropped in water fill float and it doesn’t sink. This is because of the buoyancy. The buoyancy is nothing but a force which will be exerted upon the rock by the water.

As a result of which the rock will be pushed upwards and makes it easy to lift it up. But this phenomenon is not seen in air because the stone will move downwards due to force of gravity.
