As we know that we should learn from past, try our best in present and work for future.
It is important to know about our past as we learn from our past,we should learn from our mistakes and try to correct them.
The study of past (history) is important because it tell us about ourselves it helps us to know that what we are, what is our work, by knowing our past we don't commit the same mistakes which we did in past thus, we get a chance to correct our mistakes.
From our past we learn about our society and how people lived in the past, we get a chance to know about their life, their sacrifice etc. (we learn from them).
Our past helps us to understand our present. History helps to relate things with one another.
