It is important to study classification of materials because the entire earth is composed of many different materials which may differ from each by means of forms, shapes and types.

A sound knowledge about their classification will help us to understand about each material in better way and its advantages and disadvantages can also be inferred.

Apart from this classification will help to organize the material with similar properties under one group and dissimilar properties under other group.
