India has a far less number of Medical Colleges than it should ideally have. Engineering institutions have come up in large numbers across the country, but not many Medical Colleges have been established in the past few decades. A lot of healthcare facilities and hospitals, especially in rural areas, either have a low number of doctors or no doctors at all.
Considering India's population, we should have many more medical graduates passing out every year, but this is not so as the existing colleges cannot cater to the requirement for doctors in a commensurate manner. Another problem is the emigration of a certain percentage of medical graduates to western countries.
Unless we address this acute shortage of Medical Colleges, and the consequent number of medical graduates, our healthcare system will suffer, which would not be good for the country. Therefore, many more Medical Colleges ought to be set up around the country.
