why is it necessary to keep leaf in water

manasiriya2003: Because by keeping the leaf in water water softens the leaf parts and makes it easier to view it under the microscope we can easily view the stomata and stomatal pores under the microscope
prakhar109251: ok
manasiriya2003: If we will not clean the leaf before putting under the microscope so it may carry some of the other bacterias or other not useful organisms which will not allow us to view stomata clearly under the microscope.
manasiriya2003: Is anyone tell whether my answer is correct or not
prakhar109251: lef is not clend by water

It is because it helps the leaves to gain water which they have losed during their daily processes. If leaves lose water The guard cells can't swell and the stomata stay closed. Due to this, the leaf eventually withers.
