So that the antigens of donors blood do not react with antibodies of recipients blood and vice versa resulting in clumping and finally destruction of Blood cells leading to death

its necessary to know the blood group before blood transfusion as every type of blood group contains a specific antigen like A+ contains A antigen and B+ blood blood type B antigen .Blood group B contains anti A And blood group a contains anti b proteins if different blood groups are transfused agglutination will start which will kill the victim


So its necessary...

Blood group O is exception it doesn't have antigen except Rh antigen.
