our heart has four separate chambers for oxygenated and deoxynated blood n every chamber has its separate valves to prevent back flow. if somehow both types of blood got mixed up then cells will not be able to exchange oxygen and carbondioxide from blood. entire process will get messed up.

Explanation:

It is necessary to separate oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to maintain efficient supply of oxygen into the body. This system is essential in animals that have high energy need. For example, animals like mammals and birds which constantly use this energy to maintain their body temperature.
