Why is it not easy for Carbon to take part in formation of ionic compounds ???

carbon could gain four electrons, but it would be difficult for the nucleus with 6 electrons to hold 10 protons that us 4 extra protons
carbon could lose four electrons, but it would require a large amount of energy to remove 4valence electrons from the carbon atom
so carbons take parts in covalent bonding but not in ionic bonding.
