As you increase your elevation, there is lesser air above which means there is lesser pressure. As the pressure decreases, the air molecules spread out further and the temperature decreases. At high temperatures, air molecules have more energy. This causes them to vibrate faster.

It is quieter in areas with high elevation such as Tagaytay and Baguio than in lowlands because:
- Sound travels quicker than the earth's atmosphere during the day because the air molecules are hotter due to the energy absorbed from the ground. Because the air particles at higher altitudes are colder than at ground level, sound waves refract upward. The earth's surface, on the other way, is cooler at night, and the layer that is formed imeidieately above it is similarly cooler, As a consequence, sound travels quicker and is refracted or bent towards the ground at greater altitudes.
- As you rise in altitudes, the quantity of atmosphere above us decreases, resulting in lower pressure. The atmosphere molecules expand out more as the pressure drops, and the temperature drops. The energy of air molecules increases as the temperature rises. They occur more quickly as a consequence of this.
