Answer:

this is because water is heavier , has high density so when we put water , it sinks down and the petrol comes on the top of water and the fire continues to burn so we should rather use something light in weight to extinguish the fire such as Sand

HEY MATE HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

Petrol that is exposed to air will give off vapour, even at low temperatures. This mixture of vapour and air is highly flammable, and does not easily disperse. It is also heavier than air and will tend to run along the ground and can cause a flammable atmosphere some distance away from its source.

Diesel fuel is widely regarded as safe to handle and store. In its liquid form, that is true for the most part. In its vapor form, diesel is very dangerous and can catch fire (or explode) easily in the presence of an accelerant such as fan air or oxygen. ... Diesel vapors can ignite and explode when mixed with air.
