An offspring recieves traits from both parents.

This is because, embryo formation involves the fusion of gametes and each parent contributes a gamete.

Each gamete only contains half the number of chromosomes of each parent.

When gametes fuse, a diploid organism is formed from the set of maternal and paternal chromosomes.

This is why offspring have traits of both parents.

Answer:

A zygote is formed by the fusion of sperm and ova. During formation of gametes, as a result of meiosis, sperms and eggs receive only half of the genetic material of the parent cells and thus, become haploid. When fertilization occurs, sperms and eggs become zygote which is diploid. In this way, both male and female parents contribute an exactly equal amount of genetic material to the offspring

Each offspring is a combination of both parents. An offspring receives some dominant genes from the mother and some from the father.Hence, offspring is an equal combination of the parents. The set of genes offspring receives from both parents is known as the organism's genotype
