This region receives heavy rainfall and a sloped roof empties the moisture from the roofs quickly. The Terai is a belt of marshy grasslands, savannas, and forests at the base of the Himalaya range in India, Nepal, and Bhutan, from the Yamuna River in the west to the Brahmaputra River in the east. The Terai zone is inundated yearly by the monsoon-swollen rivers of the Himalaya. This area has a hot & humid Tropical climate and is subject to the yearly Monsoonal Rains.

Houses in the Tarai region and in Goa and Mangalore have sloping roofs for the following reasons.
- The Tarai, Goa, and Mangalore regions all receive a great amount of rainfall throughout the year.
- The architecture in the area has to compensate for these heavy rains.
- The sloping roofs are one such feature that has been designed to adapt to the local climate.
- These sloping roofs don't allow water to stagnate rather they force the water down the slopes. This helps in keeping the structural integrity of the houses by limiting the damage caused due to rain.
- If the roofs had been flat, it would have let water stagnate and slowly seep into the walls of the house and also cause leakages in the roof.
- Thus, the houses in the Tarai region and in Goa and Mangalore have sloping roofs
