It is called tricarboxylic acid cycle because the citric acid is both the first product and the final reactant, and it contains three carboxyl groups.

It is also called citric cycle because its content are used over and over again. They undergo changes but they change back to their original content.
It is actually a part of cellular respiration in which oxidized pyruvate i.e 2 carbon compound undergo cycle to produce ATP.Also NADPH2 and FADH2 which is finally changed to ATP in ETC (next step of kreb cycle).
