Why is lakshwadeep known as a coral Island

Because it is mostly covered with corals .Corals are microscopic organisms.Their is lack of fertile soil on the island due to these corals.Therefore there lived a small amount of population.Corals live in groups and cover a specific area rapidly....

Since Lakshadweep contains many polyps it is known as coral islands
