The independence of Media is curbed through the following:

a. Media is controlled by government in the form of censorship, during which government might omit some portion of scenes for larger public viewing. There have been periods in Indian history when government censored media. For example,  the period of Emergency from 1975 to 1977 is considered to be the dark chapter in the history of Democratic rule in India. During Emergency, freedom of speech and expression was curtailed. Government suspended freedom of the press. Newspapers were asked to take prior approval from the government for all the material to be published. This was known as Press censorship.

b .Media is controlled by big business houses who give business to the media channels in the form of advertisements. This prevents media from reporting anything against these business giants.

c. Media also sets the agenda, at times focus extensively on a particular issue or story which they believe is interesting, and in this way they ignore some crucial issues which might demand our attention.

There are several instances like the govt. Controlling the media from showing certain news which is also known as censorship.

Although it is the govt. there are also other influences like the money which they greatly require . So they have hands with large business houses .

By this they show the advertisement of the companies only and therefore we come less to know about others.
