The advantages of using mercury in thermometer are :

1. Mercury does not stick to the sides of its tube.

2. It expands evenly when the temperature has changed only slightly.

mercury is the only one in liquid state at room temperature it's used in thermometers because it has high court physician of expansion it also has a high boiling point which makes it very suitable to measure high temperatures.
