why is metamorphic rocks are so-called?

Rocks are made up of one or more minerals. Although different rocks can contain the same minerals, they are classified based on the way in which they were formed. Metamorphic rocks form when existing rocks are exposed to heat and pressure deep within the Earth's surface.

Because meta means change and Morphic means form. Thus, metamorphic are formed when the original character of the igneous and sedimentary rocks
