Why is methane a tetrahedral?

the tetrahedral arrangement of atoms around methane as being due to the repulsion of the bonding pairs of electrons with each other . After all, the 2p orbitals are all at 90 degrees to each other, but the bond angles in methane are 109.5°.

Methane. An example of tetrahedralelectron pair geometry and molecular geometry is \(CH_4\). The carbon has 4 valence electrons and thus needs 4 more electrons from four hydrogen atoms to complete its octet. The hydrogen atoms are as far apart as possible at 109o bond angle.
