Why is NH3 positive?

N in NH3 has a long pair of electrons. another way of looking at this is one's the long pair use towards H+, a partial positive charge developed on N, to compensate this the electrons in the sigma bonding orbitals would be pulled towards the N nucleus. the net effect would be to make all N-H bond equal.
