Nitrogen is a very essential element or living beings. Nitrogen is required for plants to prepare amino acids that make up the proteins, which is important for their growth and survival. But plants cannot absorb nitrogen directly from air. Some leguminous plants have nitrogen fixing bacteria in their roots. These capture atmospheric nitrogen and convert them into simpler forms so that plants can absorb it.

Nitrogen is considered as an essential element because it helps plants and animals in growth and reproduction. It is also an important part of proteins and DNA that is found in our cells.
Plants cannot take in Nitrogen directly from the air. Plants acquire nitrogen with the help of a bacterium known as Rhizobium. This bacteria can convert nitrogen into a soluble form. This conversion of unusable nitrogen into the usable form is called Nitrogen Fixation.
