Electrons have great role in the conduction of heat and electricity.
Metals are composed of free flowing electrons that get excited on account of heat and electricity.
Non metals on other hand do not have free flowing electrons and do not cause intermolecular vibrations making them the bad conductor of heat and electricity.

To become conductor in solid phase require free electrons. Non-metals do not have any free electrons therefore unable to conduct heat and electricity.
