It's because the sun not fall on the whole surface of moon.. where ever fall which are easily visible for us to see..It changes with day.. you can see full moon as when sun light fall on moon.

because of rotation and revolution almost equal therefore one side of the moon visible from the Earth the opposite side of the moon is always hidden from our views
