Oxytocin is a hormone secreted from the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland in females. During parturition or childbirth, this hormone is secreted in more amount. This hormone stimulates forceful contraction of the uterus and cervix, facilitating childbirth. Hence this hormone is known as birth hormone.
