Why is paraformaldehyde used instead of formaldehyde?

Paraformaldehyde is the powdered polymer. In aqueous solutions, it becomes formaldehyde. The confusion comes from the fact that people use the term PFA or paraformaldehyde to refer to solutions of formaldehyde made from paraformaldehyde.
