Population is an important aspect of development because population has a both positive and negative effect on economic growth and development.
The positive effect of population on development and economic growth:
Historically both India and China has always had a high population due to high growth rates and this put them around say point "A" in the production possible frontier (PPF).
The negative effect of population on development and economic growth:
Higher population means low per capita income is simply the gross domestic product (GDP) divided by the total population.
Per capita income is equal to GDP divided by population.
As the denomination increases per capita income go down.
