Other (noncancerous) conditions that cause the cells of the prostate to produce higher levels of PSA include benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urinary tract infections, and prostatitis. BPH is the most common cause of elevated PSA levels.

The levels of PSA in blood can be indicative of prostate hyperplasia which can then lead to further testing to determine if it is benign or malignant (prostate cancer)
