Why is rail transport best developed in plains?

Reasons:

1. Favourable geographical factors such as availability of plain land for the tracks.

2. Good growth in agriculture.

3. Good growth in industries. This will demand more raw materials, thus there will be demand for railways.

4. There is civilisation. The more people, the more demand for effective transport system.

5. This place is highly populated.

6. It has rich agricultural resources.

rail transport is favoured in northern plain because northern plain of india have mostly even surface which can be accommodated by rail network. another reason is india has densely populated area in north so rail network is best option for public transportation in northern plains.
