Rail has lower fuel costs compared to road transport, especially when shipping a high volume of freight. Rail also has less costs associated with drivers and typically has better costs for drop trailer programs. Shipping via train is more environmentally friendly. Trains burn less fuel per ton mile than trucks.
Railways is more comfortable than Roadways for the following reasons:
1. Rail ticket is cheaper than Bus ticket.
2. Trains provide berths to stretch legs and sleep during travel. One has to sit in same position during Bus travel which leads to uneasiness.
3. Trains have in-built Toilets for passengers which is not in busses.
4. Busses can get caught in Traffic jams for hours which increases travel time abruptly. This does not happen with Railways.
5. Travelling by Train is safe because Rail accidents are very much less than Road accidents.
So, Railways is usually preferred for long distance travel over Roadways.
